美國準總統川普對美國「一個中國」政策提出質疑，而美國總統歐巴馬則強調「一中」政策的重要性。學者表示，美國對華政策是否將改變有待觀察，但需慎防大陸對台灣施壓。

川普質疑「一中」引發外界關注美國台海政策是否生變，淡江大學國際研究學院院長王高成接受中央廣播電臺「兩岸ING」節目專訪時指出，川普談話並非放棄「一中」，而是提條件式的說法，即美、中若未能在貿易等其它議題達成協議的前提，且此話不無意味將台灣問題做為美、中關係的籌碼。

而針對美國總統歐巴馬日前在年終記者會提出，「台灣人同意，只要能以某種程度的自制繼續運作，他們不會要朝向宣布獨立，雖然這樣的現狀無法讓涉及的任何一方都完全滿意，但這一直以來維繫和平。」王高成解讀是在強調「一中」政策的重要性，也提醒川普勿輕易改變。

王高成認為，川普上任後台、美貿易將愈顯重要，美國對台軍售可望有所突破，但若影響中、美關係，可能會導致大陸對台灣施壓，因此，建議應和兩國維持友好關係。
